Scaled Agile looks to solve for this with the Innovation and Planning (IP) Iteration.

The IP Iteration occurs at the End of every Program Increment, and is intended to be a Dedicated Sprint for the Team to Engage in Activities such as:

🚀 Continuous Learning on Pairing, CI/CD, and Automated Testing

🚀 Cross-Training in new Programming Languages and Platforms

🚀 Backlog Refinement, Prioritization, and PI Planning

🚀 Impediments, Technical Infrastructure, and Integration Tooling

IP Iterations play a critical role by providing estimating buffer for enhancing the predictability of meeting PI Objectives and enhance Team morale by providing regular opportunities for the team to Recharge and Build new skills.
